Natural Candida Cure: Beating Candida With Diet and NutritionBy Sarah RhodesThe hormone link as a cause of yeast infection for women is very common. Almost all women that suffer from recurring vaginal yeast infections will tell you that they do indeed get flare ups at the third week of their cycle. Fortunately, there are now natural herbs and supplements to treat and balance the hormones to eliminate this problem. Oral medications for yeast vaginitis and vulvitis include fluconazole (Diflucan). Most doctors prefer to treat vaginal yeast infections with vaginal tablets or suppositories rather than oral medications. Oral antifungal medication can cause side effects such as headache, nausea, and abdominal pain , while vaginal treatment is unlikely to cause these side effects. Oral antifungal medications are also not recommended for use during pregnancy. All women with the symptoms of infection described above should be treated. Women without symptoms should not be treated. The routine treatment of male sex partners is not recommended by most doctors because yeast vaginitis is not commonly acquired through sexual intercourse. You should consult a physician regarding other medications you may be taking and their potential impact on or interactions with common yeast infection treatments. Further, you may need to change your birth control measures during treatment. Some common medications used to treat yeast infections can weaken the latex used in some condoms and diaphragms, making them less effective. If the mouth is infected, the lining of the mouth is often red and sore. Sometimes the yeast causes white spots and patches on the tongue and cheek lining. This is called "thrush." The yeast can cause creamy-yellow, raised sores on the mouth. Vaginal yeast infection (yeast vaginitis) and vulvitis cause symptoms that are nonspecific, which means that aside from the yeast infection, other conditions can cause the identical symptoms. The most common symptom of a vaginal yeast infection is itching in the vaginal and/or vulvar area. Other symptoms of vaginal yeast infection and vulvitis include burning, soreness, pain during intercourse and/or urination, and vaginal discharge. Vaginal discharge is not always present, but when it occurs, the discharge is odorless and typically has a whitish, thick appearance and texture, like cottage cheese. Women have known for a long time how to recognize and treat an overgrowth of vaginal yeast, or a "yeast infection." Technically a fungus, yeast is also called "Candida" or "Monilia." It results from an upset of the vaginal Ph or an imbalance of the vagina's acid and base elements. It is not a true "infection" since there is no outside bacteria that enters the body to cause a problem; rather, the "infection" is an overgrowth of monilia naturally found in the vagina.
