Lead Poisoning Symptoms
Lead poisoning symptoms are many and varied, so it tends to be missed in medical diagnoses. Hyperactivity, exhaustion, behavioral problems, and suicidal tendencies in children are all symptoms of lead poisoning; lead can also contribute to mental retardation. Lack of will power, allergies, aching leg bones (especially in children), severe fatigue or general weakness, "whiny-ness," central nervous system disorders, personality changes, difficulty concentrating, chronic headaches, brain dysfunction, weak bones, and even anemia can be symptoms of lead accumulation. Lead mostly accumulates in the brain and nerves, bones, liver, kidney, and spleen. It can be picked up from old plumbing or paint, some cosmetics and hair dyes, leaded glass, cigarette smoke, solder, insecticides, bleached flour and sugar products, or medication (pharmaceutical drugs are often bound with lead or mercury- supposedly at "safe" levels). We no longer use leaded gasoline, but because it is difficult to secrete (get rid of) lead out of our bodies, it can still be a problem even decades after the fact. Be careful when choosing a calcium supplement. Lead is adjacent to calcium on the periodic table of elements, so the molecules are similar enough that your body can pick up lead (if present) when it is actually looking for calcium. Foods and food supplements that help to "get the lead out" include fresh cilantro, chamomile, garlic, red cabbage, Vitamin B complex (B1 and B6 help chelate lead from the brain), Vitamin C and cloves. You can try this herb tea- 1 cup 3 times a day: Use 6 parts basil, 1 part rosemary, 1 part hyssop, and 1 part boneset. There are also homeopathic remedies available for lead poisoning symptoms.
