Human Papilloma Virus
HPV
Warts

Experts have identified more than seventy types of the human papilloma virus (HPV) that infect the skin and leave warts

Although most people think of sexually transmitted disease and cervical cancer when HPV comes up, some strains are the cause of regular, everyday warts (warts can also be caused by some other viruses).

Warts tend to occur most often in children and adolescents, but anyone of any age can develop them. They can recur, and can be passed through contact.

Warts are usually identified by their location on the body. They tend to be small bumpy growths, rough and dry, and are flesh colored or darker (range of browns).

Common warts - tend to be found on the fingers and hands; aren't usually painful. Caused by HPV types 2 and 4.

Plantar warts - These usually occur on the soles of the feet, and tend to go deep into the skin tissue. Because they attack the blood vessels, plantar warts appear to have a "micro Swiss cheese" look, but with dark specks. They can be quite painful and are caused by HPV type 1.

Plane warts - small, flat, flesh colored warts that tend to grow in clusters.

Genital warts - also known as venereal warts, these are probably the most troublesome. They affect the genital and anal regions and are sexually transmitted (There have been at least four strains of HPV identified as causing genital warts).

Sometimes there are no accompanying symptoms, especially in men, but it has been implicated as a cause of cervical cancer in women. Human Papilloma virus is one of the most common STDs in our society, and it is very important to treat both sexual partners at the same time to avoid re-infection.

Genital warts are associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Epstein-Barr virus, endrometriosis, lymphoma, venereal disease, breast cancer, cervical cancer, anal cancer, penile cancer, HIV and AIDS.

Pap smears can be used to monitor HPV.

In any case of warts, it will be helpful to use anti-viral foods, herbs, and homeopathy along with a good diet and rebuilding your immune system.

Common warts can almost always be removed using natural techniques. Plantar warts can sometimes be "thwarted" with topical applications of tea tree oil.

Even after ridding your body of the Human Papilloma virus, sometimes the bumpy flesh will remain. In that case, it may be necessary to have the wart removed surgically, if it is worrisome to you.
